Rescue Liferafts
DSB Rescue Liferafts are designed for use at emergency incidents involving passenger vessels and ditched aircraft, where large numbers of people need to be rescued from the sea quickly.
Whether deployed from a rescue vessel or dropped from a search and rescue helicopter these liferafts provides a flexible rescue platform that can be used whichever way up it inflates and which, without any loss of manoeuvrability on the part of the rescue craft, can be towed to a position close to the casualties.
Since the likely use of this emergency raft would involve large numbers of people many of whom would be incapacitated, special boarding platforms are incorporated to allow both able and incapacitated casualties to board the life raft from the water.
These Liferafts were developed in close cooperation with the German Rescue Services, Maritime Authorities and the Navy in the aftermath of the Jan Heweliusz and Estonia disasters. They have been extensively tested in the German Bight Sea area over a four-year period and are currently in use with the German Maritime Rescue Services.
